Mine I renamed to TV and it works without any issues. Even though the Nvidia Shield TV is our favorite media streamer , it is by no means perfect (we’ll talk more about that in a second). Despite its imperfections, Nvidia is working hard to make the device even better, with new Google Home integrations rolling out now.
But that doesn’t include all TVs, of course. There are some TVs that you may want to search for to ensure the best quality when it comes time to sit down and enjoy a movie or a show. It will work with any TV that has an HDMI connection, while there are specific high-tech TVs that the NVIDIA Shield will work best with. If it doesn’t, you can still get things connected using an HDMI converter, but keep in mind the quality of the image and the audio may be compromised as a result. Using just your voice, the deeper integration brings new functionality and control between your Google Home and SHIELD.
Do you need a Google account for Nvidia Shield?
While the Nvidia Shield TV Pro keeps to the traditional design of the streaming device line, the new Nvidia Shield TV looks completely different. Both devices do come with a redesigned Shield Remote which is a lot more stylish than its previous iteration. The Nvidia Shield TV is more reminiscent of a streaming stick – but not quite. SHIELD TV includes the Android TV operating system, including the Google Play store, which provides access to thousands of apps and games.
Google should be embarrassed by how terrible this whole setup is. Even once it is set up it's too stupid to do half the things I want it to do. Yes, 3.3 Shield Version and 1.21xxx Cast version. I got it to work momentarily after going into system apps, disabling and downgrading the cast receiver and re-updating and rebooting everything. If you select Youtube Music as your default music source it will not work with the Android TV. I assume because it views Youtube Music as a different app than Youtube.
Is the Nvidia Shield box available in Australia?
You can now tell Google Home to jump into your favorite Netflix, HBO NOW, CBS, and Starz shows and movies immediately. One affected user claims rebooting the router and the modem fixed the issue for them, but NVIDIA has a workaround or perhaps two to address the Shield TV Google Home integration bug. Tap on the device and make sure “Not Available” is displayed. But before you make any decisions, remember that you’re not always going to be guaranteed the greatest picture quality. For a device like the Shield, the flawless quality is really what makes it shine. Suffice to say, connecting the Shield to something that won’t support its natural resolution will produce less than optimal performance. NVIDIA has long been known for its graphics. While the introduction of a streaming box wasn’t the most expected move from the company, it was a welcomed one. Plenty of people are opting for the shield over other popular devices, like Apple TV. So what do you need to know about the Shield and if it’s compatible with your TV?
Does Nvidia Shield work in Australia?
After your Nvidia Shield TV receives the most-recent update, you will have more voice control over what your Shield TV does through Google Assistant. All you have to do is make sure your Shield TV and Google Home smart speaker or smart display are connected to the same home network. As an NVIDIA SHIELD TV owner, one of the frustrating things about the device is how it doesn't work great with Google Home/Google Assistant. Finally, that is changing along with some other welcomed features.
First off, the Shield TV has Assistant built right into it, so one would think integration with Google Home hardware would be a snap. However, that’s not the case and there are actually many features and commands which don’t work at all or at the very least inconsistently. Like we touched on earlier, as long as your TV can stand up against the impressive specs of the Shield, you should be good to go.
But lately, things haven’t been working out as usual. In fact, some owners of older Shield TVs say the issue has been around for quite a long time, some dating it back to the day the device picked up the 8.0.1 update. Over the last four or so years, NVIDIA has established itself as the maker of the best streaming video player in the thin Android TV set-top box market. The first Shield TV came about in 2015 and was refreshed in 2017. I love being able to walk in a room and give a command and my TV turns on, sets proper input, plays video.
Complete the setup by following the first set of instructions (delete Google Assistant app data on SHIELD, restart SHIELD, press microphone button, use Google Home to assign SHIELD to room, etc.). You can now enjoy controlling your NVIDIA Shield TV via Google Home, just like this Redditor who says the above workaround fixed the bug for them. Tap each device and unlink them from your account. Tap the Settings icon in the top right corner to continue. On the other hand, the older Shield TVs from 2015 and 2017 are no slouch either. NVIDIA has consistently kept them in the best shape possible through regular software updates, but of course, it always feels nice to have new stuff around you, especially a new Shield remote. Mine worked perfectly with the Shield out of the box.
With that in mind, it’s hard to tell you what’s new on the list and what’s not. Not OP, but I have never been able to get it to successfully connect. I have a lot of connected devices in my house, so it's not from lack of experience. You have to cast something to the shield you're trying to add, and then you should have some notification in the Home app that a device that hasn't been added to your home is casting.
The lights would just keep blinking like it was thinking about it. Thankfully, things should be working better now with a deeper integration. Here are a few examples of commands you can say now. Tap “Remove device” to remove it from your list of devices. Check to make sure that your Chromecast/google cast Receiver app is at least 1.21+.
